Thanks for the memories

As one door closes, another one opens. Whanga Records is changing; from studio-based to not so studio-based.

Without premises to call their own, the label will go on: all the work from events to recording / releasing new music to video-making and promoting bands will continue as normal, simply using a wider range of venues. Only booking rehearsal space will be affected, and as far as I can tell, Dunfermline and the surrounding area has a plethora of venues offering rehearsal space.

My favourite memories

It’s easy to say, “in no particular order,” but diplomacy and Get Set, Joe don’t go.

Whanga Studio Memory No.1

Whanga Studio Memory No.3

The Birrell or Biscuit – UFO Space Disco video took about 10 minutes to shoot. I remember Craig (the Birrell in Birrell or Biscuit) saying lights aff, smoke machine on, make it hazy / psychedelic, and shoot it in one take, or something like that. I thought, aye, give me nae chance of filming anything anyone can watch. However, people seem to like it.

I like the way it breaks the fourth wall. In theatre breaking the fourth wall occurs when the actors acknowledge the audience and no longer pretend no one is watching. In UFO Space Disco the artists acknowledge their miming and no longer pretend to be playing the song. Some don’t even pretend to know the song!
