Get Set, Joe on the go – UFO Space Disco (Official Video) Birrell or Biscuit

Thinking I’d need it for something and to do something during lockdown, I set this website up about 6 months ago. Well, something has happened – I’ve made some music videos. Changed days from making my first music video in the late eighties on actual VHS video tape.

I’m loving getting back into video-making and I think my return kinda started with Birrell or Biscuit and UFO Space Disco.

Craig Birrell, the main man of Birrell or Biscuit, said something like, let’s shoot this in a single take, in a dark room, with disco lights, and a fog machine. I think he wanted psychedelic and hazy, although it was months ago and now my memory is hazy. I thought, this is going to look pish. Although, looking back, maybe he had the right idea. It’s got something about it.

Craig is backed up in the video by TwinsTown who very obviously don’t know the words. Does it matter? No, Craig doesn’t bother singing the words. He prefers drinking Stella Artois. At least, I think it’s a can of Stella I can see through the fog. It reminds me of Dexy’s Midnight Runners requesting, and oddly getting, a huge picture of world darts champion, and fellow Fifer, Jocky Wilson as their set backdrop on Top Of The Pops when performing Jackie Wilson Said.

UFO Space Disco is a great tune; Glasvegas meets BMX bandits meets White Stripes. Listen to White Stripes’ Jolene or Kylie’s Got A Crush On Us by BMX Bandits (named after an early Nicole Kidman movie). Maybe even try the Vaselines (Nirvana’s favourite band – Nirvana covered Vaselines’ tracks). What’s not to like!?
